Electric vehicle (EV) sales continued to smash records in 2023. The IEA expects global sales to have reached 14 million new vehicles once the numbers are tallied up, representing a 35% year-on-year increase.

What has 2024 got in store for us in terms of new options?

1. Citroen eC3

The shut up and take my money EV

I’m truly excited about this new model from Citroen. When it debuts in late 2024, the eC3 will be the cheapest EV available in the UK at £21,000. Knock 40% off on a salary sacrifice scheme and the eC3 is an absolute steal. It will offer a range of up to 155 miles on a single charge. With its compact size, the eC3 is well suited for city driving.

From £21,000.

2. CUPRA Tavascan

The name sounds like a medical procedure EV

Following the launch of the hatchback-style ‘Born’ model in 2022, the Tavascan is CUPRA’s second all-electric model. This time, CUPRA is aiming squarely at the SUV market. With its estimated range of around 280 miles, the Tavascan is a practical choice for longer-distance drivers.

From £50,000.

3. Mini Countryman E

The understated gentleman’s EV

Whilst the iconic (and cheaper) Mini Cooper Electric has been on the market for a few years now, the Countryman E is the electric variant of Mini’s compact SUV. It retains the classic Mini design elements while offering emission-free driving. With a range of approximately 235 miles, this electric SUV is a good choice for both urban driving and longer trips.

From £42,000.

4. Peugeot e-3008

The I don’t want it to look too much like a SUV, EV

The Peugeot e-3008 is an electric version of the current Peugeot 3008 SUV. Simply add an electric powertrain, range of up to 217 miles, ample space for passengers and cargo, and this EV is a good choice for families.

From £42,000.

5. Polestar 4

The sensible-Scandi EV

The Polestar 4 is the upcoming luxury electric sedan from Volvo’s electric performance brand. To date, Polestar have not done a bad job in terms of style and efficiency. The range for the long-range model is expected to be over 300 miles, making #4 an exciting addition to the EV market.

From £55,000.

6. Smart #3

The latte-sipping, turtle neck-wearing, urbane EV

The Smart #3 is designed by Mercedes-Benz. Known for their compact size, Smart cars have been popular with Euro-city dwellers for years. The #3 is expected to offer improved range compared to its Smart EV predecessors, making it an attractive option for those seeking a small and efficient EV.

From £35,000.

7. Volkswagen ID.7

The Germans do it without fuss EV

The Volkswagen ID.7 is the latest all-electric SUV from the German automaker. Building on the success of earlier ID models, the ID.7 iteration is expected to offer even more space and range — 325 miles on a single charge. Volkswagen continues to churn out quality electric vehicles.

From £59,000.

8. Range Rover Electric

The Chelsea tractor with a conscience EV

Land Rover have taken their sweet time getting here, but the all-electric Range Rover is finally due to start production in 2024. The range is expected to be truly enormous, approaching 400 miles on a single charge. No excuse for UK drivers wanting to experience Land Rover’s brand, without the emissions.

In sum

These are just some of the EVs set to arrive in the UK in 2024. One of the most interesting trends is the number of new EV manufacturers and models coming out of China — perhaps an article for another blog.

Whether you’re on a budget or looking to splash a banker’s bonus on a new car, there’s an something for everyone in 2024.
